Our travel guide of Hokuriku Shinkansen

With its huge glass dome, Kanazawa Station is connected to Nagano and Tokyo with the Hokuriku Shinkansen since March 2005.

It is also a departure point for Fukui and Kyoto with for example the Limited Express Thunderbird train, for Maibara, Gifu and Nagoya with the Limited Express Shirasaki.

The JR Nanao Line connects Kanazawa with the Noto peninsula.

A huge glass dome with infinite reflections, the Motenashi (welcome) dome was build in 2005. Inside the station, a shopping center satisfies the urges of buyers with clothing, souvenirs and local products. This is called the Eki Naka Phenomenon in Japan.

But the heart of the station is outside. A huge torii ( gate marking the entrance to sanctuaries) stands four meters in height. Far from the usual vermilion gate made of simple wooden cylinders, this monument is a feat of architecture technology.

To exchange your Japan Rail Pass, you will have to go to Central Ticket Office.

Just after the torii, there is a big bus station where you can ride the Kanazawa Loop Bus. Note that a JR bus line covered by Japan Rail Pass connects the station to the Kenrokuen.
